Overview
FTMO is a Czech prop trading firm (FTMO s.r.o.) founded in 2015, best known for its forex and CFD evaluations. It also now runs a separate futures program, and lists a TradingView integration via the OANDA broker profile.
FTMO offers three paths: the classic 2-Step (FTMO Challenge plus Verification), a 1-Step challenge, and an Instant account that gives direct access to an FTMO Account with no evaluation. Every FTMO account is a demo account with simulated funds.
A notable 2026 change: for accounts from orders created on or after October 12, 2026, a new Consistency rule replaces the Best Day Rule on the 1-Step product.
How the evaluation works
- Pick a path2-Step, 1-Step or Instant. Free trials are available.
- Meet the objectivesAll applicable objectives at the same time, with all positions closed when the target is reached.
- FTMO AccountNo profit target, but you must keep complying with the loss rules at all times.
- RewardsWithdraw rewards, subject to the account's consistency or best-day requirement where it applies.
Rules in plain English
2-Step: targets and minimum days
10% profit target in the FTMO Challenge, 5% in the Verification, and at least 4 trading days in each phase (a trading day is one where you open at least one position, measured in CE(S)T).
2-Step: Maximum Daily Loss 5%
Each day at 00:00 CE(S)T your floor is reset to that day's starting balance minus 5% of initial capital, measured on equity including open P&L, swaps and commissions. On a $100,000 account: $95,000 on day one; if you close day one at $102,000, day two's floor is $97,000.
2-Step: Maximum Loss 10% (static)
Equity can never drop below 90% of initial capital ($90,000 on a $100,000 account). It doesn't trail.
1-Step: 10% target, 3% daily, 10% EOD trailing
One phase with a 10% target. Daily loss is 3% of initial capital. Maximum loss trails your highest end-of-day balance by 10%, only moving up, and resets to 90% of initial capital after a reward when a new FTMO Account is issued.
1-Step: Consistency (new) vs Best Day (legacy)
For orders from Oct 12, 2026, your best day can't be more than 50% of total profit (all closed P&L, losing days included). Older accounts use the Best Day Rule, which compares against profitable days only. Neither is a breach; you just keep trading until the ratio is met.
Instant: 3% daily, 10% intraday trailing, 30% consistency
Maximum loss trails your highest closed balance in real time and does not reset when you withdraw. Your best day must be 30% or less of total profit to be eligible for a reward.
- All FTMO day calculations use midnight Central European time, not US market close.
- On the Instant account, once your balance exceeds 110% of initial capital, FTMO warns that withdrawing a reward could itself breach the trailing limit.

Recent rule changes
- FTMOConsistency
Consistency rule replaces the Best Day Rule on 1-Step
For accounts from orders created on or after Oct 12, 2026 (or merged after that date), your best day can't be more than 50% of total profit, losing days included. The legacy Best Day Rule compared against profitable days only. Exceeding either is not a breach; you keep trading until the ratio is met.
Who it affects: New FTMO 1-Step Challenges and FTMO Accounts (1-Step) from that date. Older accounts stay on the Best Day Rule.
